just my KUPPA tea … 080415

KUPPA

it was a do-nothing tuesday … so i decided to go to Slice in High Street … to try their absolutely gorgeous cakes and coffee … and then on to Kuppa along 4th Street to enjoy a night of acoustic music …

so i got a table with a good view at Kuppa and ordered … i had wanted to try the eggs Benedict ala Florentine but that was just served during breakfast … so i settled for a clubhouse sandwich

the clubhouse sandwich was kinda good as well as the french press coffee … i was left with the impression that the people in the kitchen actually cared about making their food and drink taste good … this was definitely not a place that hired half-hearted burger flippers and baristas …

DSC_2250_DxO10first up was Beiah Tudio … she rendered acoustic versions of Bruno Mars’ “Today My Life Begins” … Moonstar 88’s “Migraine” … and Kitchie Nadal’s “Bulong” … the guy with a guitar to her left is Jairus … Beiah cheerfully opened the “Tambay Tuesday” event with the theme “Faith, Hope and Love” …

Beiah’s cheeriness was infectious … and that helped get things rolling for the night …

DSC_2254_DxO10next up was Keifer Cabugao … he covered “Awit ng Kabataan” by Rivermaya … and Simple Plan’s “Astronaut” … this was the first time i had seen Keifer with a guitar … i usually see him with a violin …

DSC_2263_DxO10there … that’s more like it … here was something you don’t see everyday … a guy singing while playing the violin … Keifer sang a song about being a sinner and a saint … at the same time … it was short-lived and fun …

we were then entertained by the sibling duo of Magoo and Micah del Mundo … they performed several songs … i really liked “Only Hope” and “Someday We’ll Know” … yey … Mandy Moore … i also liked the way they performed Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up” …

the night’s main draw was Clara Benin … she performed covers of Phoenix/Birdy’s “1901” … Radiohead’s “high and dry” … and who does not like Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” (don’t it always seem to go … that you don’t know what you’ve got … til’ it’s gone …)

trivia: “Big Yellow Taxi” is all about the “urbanification” of hawaii in the late 1960’s …

then Clara performed her original songs from her album “Human Eyes” … “Closure” … “Find Me” and “Dust” … it’s amazing to see that see could be so high spirited after what looked like a long day … she even confessed that she was nervous and trembling while performing …

as it turns out … everyone who performed belonged to the same Christian church … and that they hold activities like this one every tuesday … so Clara talked about how going to church can be a joyful, creative and enlightening experience … their pastor, pastor Justin, even went the extra mile to make sure we all got invited to visit their church …

click here if you are interested about visiting the c3 church in makati …

it is always inspiring to see people who are willing to stand firm and proud for what they believe in … like that guy said in the “Sucker Punch” movie … “if you don’t stand for something … you’ll fall for anything …”

to end the night … Clara sang a personal song she wrote … it’s about remembering the Lord because He has given us so much … it was quite touching … it was simply the perfect way to end the event …

thanks for visiting … see yah soon …

thank you rachel and josh for the information …
